A reminder: all faculty, staff and students are required to change their University password every ninety days. An email reminder is sent three times before your password expires. If your password is allowed to expire, access is denied to campus networks, email and other accounts. If you also have an RCOE account, you will be prompted after changing your ASU password to update your RCOE password.
Do not provide your University password to anyone for any reason. If there are resources you wish to share with others in the College, across campus, or outside the University, please contact a technical support staff member for assistance.
RCOE Directory Information
Please verify we have the correct information for you in our online directory – we’ve made a concerted effort to update phone and office numbers, but with all the changes this semester, we may have missed a few:
If you are unable to find your entry, check the departmental or administrative listings in case we misspelled your name:
If any information is incorrect or you are not listed, email Chris Larson (larsoncm@appstate.edu) with corrections or additions.
Lab and Laptop Cart Reservations
If you need to reserve 218, 215, media lab or laptop carts, now is the time to do so. Check the calendar and make a reservation request today…
New Video Editing Station
The Media Lab has a new video editing station. This new station consists of a Mac Pro, widescreen LCD display and LCD video monitor connected to DVD and VHS dubbing equipment. See John Spagnolo (spagnolojt@appstate.edu) if you need training on this equipment.
Scheduled IT Maintenance
ITS has adopted the following maintenance schedule for Fall 2010. The College of Education technology staff may take advantage of these times to perform maintenance on its servers, services, labs and classrooms. Please plan accordingly as you schedule your class assignments.
Syllabi
When saving your syllabi, please do so in a WORD or PDF file. Also, please name it following the process laid out below:
- Department Initials (Communication Disorders for instance is CD, Reading is RE and Special Education is SPE)
- Course Number (Four digits used for course identification)
- Section Number (Three digit section number)
- Term Identifier (Three digits (for instance Fall 2010 could be 104 this being the 4th semester of 10)
- Your Initials (first then last no middle)
For example, a syllabi name would look like this when saving:
RE5710101104WT.doc(note that there are no spaces)
Translated, this would read: Reading Education course 5710 section 101 term Fall 2010 Instructor Woody Trathen (saved as a WORD document)
The University has posted two important policies – one on disabilities, the other on religious observances – that directly impact students and faculty. Both policies should be reflected in current syllabi; these policies are posted as the Academic Integrity Code, Accommodations for Students With Disabilities and the Interim Religious Observance Policy on the Academic Affairs web site.
Please include this statement on your syllabi:
“Appalachian State University is committed to making reasonable accommodations for individuals with documented qualifying disabilities in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. Those seeking accommodations based on a substantially limiting disability must contact and register with The Office of Disability Services (ODS) at www.ods.appstate.edu or 828-262-3056. Once registration is complete, individuals will meet with ODS staff to discuss eligibility and appropriate accommodations.”
Send your syllabi to Justin Cervero (cerverojj@appstate.edu) by Friday, September 10, 2010 for posting to the RCOE syllabi website.
Digital Signage
If you have an announcement or event relevant to the College of Education suitable for our digital signs, submit a request at:
iPads
The College of Education has two iPads available for checkout. If you are interested in trying out an iPad for a few days, please see Anthony Santucci (santucciaj@appstate.edu) to check one out.
MiFi Cards
We have several Verizon MiFi cards available for checkout to faculty and staff. These are for official University travel (eg, conferences, off-campus meetings, other special events) where there is a charge to use Internet service or Internet access is not available.
Please keep in mind that you should reserve these several weeks in advance, and if you are attending a conference with other faculty and staff, only one device will be checked out to the group. In addition, the cards must be returned on the due date – there is often someone waiting to checkout that card on the due date. Contact Chris Larson (larsoncm@appstate.edu) to reserve a card.
International Travel
Are you taking a laptop or other Appalachian-owned item? When you carry a laptop or other item with you outside of the U.S., you are effectively exporting items which may be subject to export control regulations. In cases where a laptop is being taken, the laptop may not be strictly controlled, but the software may have encryption capabilities that are strictly controlled. In addition, any technical information on the laptop that can be used or adopted for the development, production or use of a controlled good may be controlled by export control regulations. Learn more at the Office for Research and Sponsored Programs website.
Battery Recycling
If you have old or dead batteries (AAA, AA, C, D, 9-volt, cell phone or laptop battery), you can place them in the plastic container next to the paper recycling bins on the second floor of Duncan. If you have an old UPS you wish to recycle, please see one of the technology staff to arrange disposal. Please no leaking batteries and car or other large batteries.
Old Technology Equipment
Please do not leave old, broken, or otherwise obsolete technology equipment in the hallway. Submit a support ticket to have any old University equipment sent to surplus, and technology staff will arrange pickup of the items. Items include, but are not limited to: computers, printers, monitors, network switches/hubs, keyboards, mice, cables and surge protectors/power strips.
